Did I delete this post?

The republican talking points on Morning Joe seem to be all about Obama not visiting injured troops in Germany. They are saying that Obama decided to not meet with the troops because he couldn't bring camera's in with him. Pat Buchanan said that "Obama was shooting hoops while he should have been meeting with injured troops." JS and PB seemed to think this is a huge mistake. I think the Obama campaign needs to counter this ASAP.

My perception of this incident is that Obama wanted to visit the troops, but once he learned that he could not do this while campaigning, he decided to forgo the event entirely. This was because the European trip was as a candidate, while the Mid East tour was as a Senator. I feel that Obama did not want to try and politicize the troops in any way, while McCain is using the troops as some sort of clumsy bludgeon against Obama.

McCain has been completely despicable this week. Gaffes, hysterical attacks on BHO's motivations for trying to get us out of Iraq, poor staging, poor speaking skills, forced smiles, and continuous proclamations to his friends, I cannot believe this guy is getting 45% in the polls. Every so often, I get a bit paranoid and wonder, are these guys trying to lose and why?

And had he gone, McCain would be screaming just as loudly about how Obama used the troops for his own political purposes.  It was a no-win situation.  You're right on the reason he skipped the meet - it's been discussed all weekend, including strongly supportive interviews with Hagel & Reed.

In fact, Obama did visit wounded troops in the war zones - that came out yesterday. As Pat forgets, Barack was shooting hoops with the troops, and that was not, ahem, in Germany.

But it's easier ignore the truth & hit the sour notes & that's what McCain is doing - followed by increasingly desperate GOP.  Obama will probably take a hit on this but I don't think it's going to add up to much more than annoying background noise.  But then again, Obama is pretty good at taking lemons & making lemonade.

I look at McCain going wildly negative while Obama sticks to the high road and it seems pretty good.  The "civil" campaign was promised by McCain but that's turned into yet another of his broken promises.  The surrogates will mobilize this week (I believe Hillary is on the road shortly) and they'll hit back at McCain.  It should be fun.

I didn't have much time this weekend to hang out here so I missed the discussion. I agree with you and absolutely agree that McCain is looking increasingly desperate.

Yes, yes you did.  And my sparklingly witty comment about Buchanan's rhyming scheme along with it.

Damn! I wonder how I did that. I would so like to hear your comment.

It's not really that clever.  I just expressed my opinion that "Obama was shooting hoops when he should have been meeting troops" would have made a better sound byte, and my surprise that the clowns over at Alegre's Cesspool hadn't stumbled upon this soundbite yet.

Oh, and my disgust that our political discourse is so degraded that a rhyming phrase like that probably counts as a serious "argument."

I gotta say, I have never seen such a horrible campaign as McCain's. I don't even really want to point out what they are doing wrong, because I do not want to clue them in, but this guy just looks bad every time I see him. To me, it almost seems like they are trying to lose. The truly disturbing part is, that Obama is not kicking his ass more. Way more.

Indeed.  I'm not sure whether to take the easy road and blame Obama for sucking, or the hard road and blame Americans for being drooling morons.
